Daquann Smith, 22, died in a shooting on Friday, Oct. 25, the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office said in a news release on Tuesday, Oct. 29. State troopers responded to the scene on the 300 block of Madison Avenue at around 11 p.m.
Smith was pronounced dead at the scene and the investigation remained ongoing.
"We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Daquann Smith," said Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland. "Our office along with the New Jersey State Police is committed to conducting a thorough investigation to ensure that those responsible for this senseless act are brought to justice."
A GoFundMe page was set up in Smith's memory and had raised $480 from eight donations as of press time.
"Please keep my family in your prayers and thoughts," said Aleicia Smith, Daquann's younger sister. "This is a very [rough] time for my family."
